You can not imagine the complete SHOCK I was in just a few hours ago when I came home to an apartment FULL of your generous donations. Don’t believe me? Check out the pictures of what used to be my tidy little apartment! My roommate Joe (who was so amazingly helpful in collecting while I was gone. Thank you, Joe!!) warned me that there was a lot here and I STILL never imagined quite how much. WOW!
With that kind of welcome, our plan for Tuesday/Election Day pretty much wrote itself. Sort, pack, and get these goods out the door and to the people who need them FAST. So that’s what we’ll be doing. We have one trip out to Far Rockaway scheduled for early afternoon today and the next as soon as we can get a hold of a BIG van or truck. If you can help out with that, shoot us an email. firstname.lastname@example.org
While we’re sorting, we will still be collecting the FOLLOWING at 167 W. 80th Street today, 11/6, from 10am – 3pm. Instructions on the door:
– Blankets – Candles – Flashlights – Lights – Water – Food –
Batteries – Diapers and Wipes – Gloves and Masks – Rubber boots –
Shovels – Cleaning supplies and bleach – Trash bags – Serving dishes
and utensils – Winter wear (jackets, hats, gloves, warm stuff) –
At this time we no longer need regular clothing donations, but thank you as many of the shelters do not have the capacity to to deal with massive amounts of clothing!
Mandy will be collecting the same donations at her apartment until 6 this evening and if anyone is free before 1pm, she and Hilary will be making hot food and sandwiches to take to Far Rockaway this afternoon.
As always if you can’t make it out, money donations are really appreciated as they allow us to feed, supply, and transport those still in need. On Monday 40,000 homes in NYC were not habitable and it has gotten very cold, so we still have a lot to do.
Grateful from the bottom of our hearts,
Monica, Mandy & Hilary
